From May 13th to 15th, the Hub4Food team had a busy and inspiring week, taking part in Food4Future, one of Spain’s most prominent foodtech events, held in the vibrant city of Bilbao, in the Basque Country. The event provided an excellent platform to raise awareness about Hub4Food and engage with stakeholders interested in building a more sustainable world through the use of marine resources.

Throughout the fair, Hub4Food attracted the attention to its stand of numerous visitors eager to learn how the project contributes to transforming the food system through innovative, ocean-based solutions.

A key highlight was the roundtable discussion “Best Technologies to Develop Better Food,” where Noelia Dosil, Coordinator of the Innovation, Digital Transformation, and Entrepreneurship Area at CLUSAGA and Hub4Food Project Coordinator, and Javier González, Senior Business Support Manager at EIT Food, participated alongside two pioneering European startups from the marine sector – Mediterranean Algae and Poseidona. Together, they explored the potential of the blue economy and emphasized the critical importance of collaboration to drive sustainable development.

The third day, the consortium’s research and technology organizations and clusters gathered at EIT Food’s facilities for a consortium meeting. During the meeting, the team advanced in the evaluation process of the pilot projects with SMEs and in the definition of innovation support services to be provided. The session also included a collaborative workshop where partners brainstormed ideas for upcoming citizen science actions.

This dynamic week served as a significant boost for the Hub4Food community, reinforcing partnerships and laying the groundwork for continued progress toward a more sustainable, ocean-driven European food system.
